Marcia Shelstad
Hello and welcome! My name is Marcia Shelstad, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC #11245582) with a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Education, specializing in Special Education. For over 25 years, I have also worked as a teacher in the education system, supporting students and families with diverse learning and life needs.
As a counsellor, I bring together a wide range of evidence-based approaches to meet each client where they are at. Depending on your goals, I may integrate methods such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) strategies, Strengths-Based approaches, and Psychoeducation. I am also trained in EMDR therapy. I incorporate tools for anxiety and stress management, grounding techniques, and strategies that help with self-esteem, emotional regulation, and building healthy relationships.
I work with teens through adults in an online setting, creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming space. My style is down-to-earth, approachable, and free from judgment or bias. I believe in meeting people with compassion and honesty, and I want clients to feel truly heard and understood.
A little about me personally: I grew up in the country and still hold a deep love for nature and animals. That background has given me a grounded perspective on life, one that I bring into my work as a counsellor.
Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, overthinking, relationship challenges, or simply want to explore personal growth, I am here to walk alongside you with warmth, professionalism, and care.
My Journey Begins
Marcia Shelstad Counselling was created from a deep passion for a holistic, patient-centered approach to wellness. I had the pleasure of raising two children, and continue to be the caregiver to my adopted animals. I am passionate about meeting every person where they are at in their journey in life with no bias or judgement. We all need to be seen and heard and deserve to live our best life. Being a teacher in the education system for over 20 years, I saw the need for a safe space for all adults and young people alike, to deal with all the complicated emotions and situations life hands us. Recognizing the need for compassionate, personalized care, I established a welcoming space where you can find down to earth support and understanding.
